You are what you eat.

Yum, good ol' french fries from McDonald's. Here are a few things I learned recently:

1. French fries are the most eaten vegetable in America.
2. Only seven items on McDonald's entire menu contain no sugar.
3. The average child sees 10,000 TV advertisements per year.
4. McDonald's feeds more than 46 million people a day - more than the entire population of Spain.
5. For every square mile in Manhatten there are 4 McDonald's.

In return . . .

1. 60 % of all Americans are either overweight or obese.
2. One in every three children born in the year 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime.
3. Left unabated, obesity will surpass smoking as the leading cause of preventable death in America.
4. McDonald's distributes more toys per year than Toys-R-Us.
5. You would have to walk for seven hours straight to burn off a Super Sized Coke, fry and Big Mac.

This shocked me! I knew America was fat, but we're the fattest nation in the world and after seeing some of this I'm not surprised. I'm not saying that McDonald's is at fault, that the lawsuits against them for making people fat are valid, or we need to never eat fast food again. However, I will think twice next time before pulling into fast food for either myself or the kids. Sometimes it's inevitable, you can't cook every meal at home, I know I can't.

If you haven't seen Super Size Me you need to!
