Today I went out and pulled the weeds in the yard. When Chris is home, this is one of his *privileges.* Just one of those things that is *his* job that I *let* him do so he knows that he's needed and appreciated around the house. When he's gone I pull the weeds but only when it looks like they need mowing instead of pulling.
So today I headed out in the heat and knowing a monsoon is soon going to blow through, but since monsoons are daily around here now that's part of the challenge. The monsoons had also nicely redistributed the rocks in the lawn so it looked like we had incorporated a wash from our house to the street. Needless to say, this was going to take a while if I was going to do it right as the trees also needed trimming since all the rain is helping them grow like. . . weeds.
Out I go with my gloves and a big trash sack. I'm not out there for more than 5 minutes or so when two young gentlemen stroll by with a shovel and a broom and asked if I would pay them $3 to fix our *wash.*
Backup - I don't carry cash. If I can't use my debit card, you're out of luck. And I'm assuming these guys don't take Visa.
So I told them exactly that - guys I don't carry any cash, I'm sorry, but thanks for the offer. They let down their shoulders in sadness but picked up their utensils and went to work! Can you believe it? People (kids on a Friday night) just don't do that.
They swept and rearranged rock all the way from the street to my fence and got it looking pretty good. It took them all of about 5 minutes and was the easiest part of the task in front of me and the job I was saving for last and it was so simple, but it lifted my spirits enough that the rest of the job didn't seem quite so bad.
Guessing that they're saving up for something, perhaps a video game or could we hope an educational book of some sort, I told them to knock on my door tomorrow and I'll have proper payment for them - they earned it!
It's the simple things in life. . .
